Anyone who’s worked with Hexcode knows our awesome Digital Marketing Specialist, Sarah. Recently, her family has faced unimaginable challenges as her husband, Darryl, bravely fought and beat cancer after a three-year battle. Sadly, complications from his treatments have caused severe, ongoing health issues.
To help out, we invite you to join us on Monday, November 24, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. for a community bake sale fundraiser in support of Darryl, Sarah, and their family.
The Story
In 2022, Darryl Runyan was diagnosed with colon cancer. After five failed surgeries and countless trips to KU Med Center, he began six months of chemo followed by six weeks of radiation in 2024. Through every round of treatment, Darryl fought with incredible strength, and in November 2024, the Runyans finally heard the news that they had been hoping for. He was in full remission.
Sadly, just a few months later, complications from these treatments began to cause severe intestinal blockages. From March to May 2025, Darryl spent nearly ten weeks in the hospital, missing out on important family milestones and enduring one final surgery, hoping to fix the issue. In October, they were told no further surgeries were possible. Now, Darryl relies on TPN (IV nutrition) and palliative care for pain management.
For 15 years, Darryl has poured his heart into teaching graphic design, video editing, and game development at Butler Community College. Other than his family, teaching is what he lives for. He absolutely loves his career, his students, and the staff. But with his ongoing health challenges, he’s been forced to step away from the classroom.
Your generosity will help cover Darryl’s medical care and home support, allowing him to focus on his health and family and to continue inspiring others through his strength and spirit.
